The Missouri Film Alliance of Springfield will be hosting the “Show-Me” Missouri International Film Festival this weekend. Steve Olson of SGFsoccer.com is the current president of the Missouri Film Alliance of Springfield.
The festival includes the documentary “Once in a Lifetime: The Extraordinary Story of the New York Cosmos” which chronicles the New York Cosmos and the rise and fall of the North American Soccer League.
The film is directed by Paul Crowder. He also directed Dogtown and Z-Boys. Crowder’s wife, Kelly H’Doubler, is a Glendale graduate.
“Once in a Lifetime” will be shown at 7:00pm on Saturday, February 24 at the Gillioz Theatre. A large turnout from the Springfield soccer community is expected. Tickets are $7.50; $5.50 for students and can be purchased at the Gillioz in advance or before the show.
The National Federation of State High School Associations has announced rules changes for the 2007-08 soccer season. Most of the rules changes deal with improper equipment and the resulting penalties. Shinguards are a major focus.
“Players no longer will be able to wear inappropriate, undersized shinguards,” Lombardi said. “Manufacturers are required to produce shinguards that will minimize risk to players. Correctly sized and safety-regulated shinguards should greatly assist in the reduction of leg injuries in high school soccer.”

Girls Soccer practice will begin on Monday, February 26 at the Glendale track. Practice, a timed run, will be from 5:00-6:00pm. Bring water, running shoes, and the appropriate paperwork.
The story of Michael Robards is being distributed nationally to the soccer community in that hope that others will learn from his mistake.
My name is Michael Robards, and I am 25 years old. As I write you, I’m in jail, in the custody of Johnson County, Kansas charged with involuntary manslaughter.
As a long time member of the soccer community, having played at the premier, high school and collegiate level, as well as coached, I’d like to share my life altering story of the harmful and deadly effects of drinking and driving. My hope is that by sharing my story I will initiate changes in attitudes and actions about drinking and driving and hopefully with your support we can save lives.
