Today’s News-Leader has an interesting story about stretching athletic scholarship dollars. Those chasing the college soccer scholarship dream should know that most scholarships are partial scholarships. Only in certain sports, like basketball, are scholarships not allowed to be split among several athletes. Two of the most compelling statements in the article are:
“Every coach’s dream is a top-flight athlete who also excels in the classroom. Many athletes at local colleges receive other financial help, including academic money (via scholarship or grant).”
and
“In other words, young student-athletes hoping to get their entire college bill paid through an athletic scholarship should spend just as much time hitting the books as they do the practice field.”
