A commentary from the webmaster….
SGFsoccer.com is a one-year-old today. If you don’t check SGFsoccer on a regular basis, you are really missing out. It is the definitive source for soccer information is Southwest Missouri. Steve Olson, the man behind SGFsoccer, spends a large amount of time covering the area soccer scene. He got his start covering area soccer by shooting photos and video for Glendale Soccer and he continues to be the largest contributer to the photo gallery that displays on our site.
It is hard for me to believe that SGFsoccer is only a year old. It seems like I have been talking to Steve about the internet, blogging, and local soccer for a long time. We first met when he drove out to my house late one night to drop off some Glendale Soccer video that needed to be uploaded for a DVD manufacturer. The cigar chomping, gray-haired fellow in my driveway vaguely reminded me of the late Reverend Gene Scott. Fortunately, he turned out to be less cantankerous than Dr. Scott.
So far, SGFsoccer has operated without asking for a dime in donations or advertising revenue. Steve is working on a plan to grow and monetize his site and he has been open about the amount of traffic at his site. When the time comes, I hope that members of the Falcons Nation will be able to support his efforts.
